Q: Why Ito?
A: Ito comes from the Latin, and can be translated as 'I must go'. Transport problems were not unfamiliar to the Romans. In 120 AD, the Emperor Hadrian observed of traffic in Rome: "This luxury of speed destroys its own aim: a pedestrian makes more headway than a hundred conveyances jammed end to end along the twists and turns of the Via Sacra."

Q: Where is your company based?
A: Ito! is a UK registered company with developers both in the South East of England (with a presence in London, Cambridge and Ipswich) and across the world.

Q: What countries are you operating in?
A: Initially we are operating only within the UK, however we will be rolling out the service within European and in other selected countries in 2007.

Q: Can I use your web service to provide maps for my web applications?
A: Yes, a static map can be incorporated by cutting and pasting a fragment of HTML and inserting the appropriate coordinates and sizes.

Q: Can I use your services in conjunction with my existing GIS platform
A: Yes, we offer all our mapping services using OGC Web Map Service (WMS) which is compatible will all modern GIS platforms, so you can pull an accessibility map from our servers and overlay this with schools catchment data from another source.

Q: Can I use your services in conjunction with my existing GIS platform?

Q: What standards does Ito! support?
A: Ito! uses Transmodel as a base for terminology and modelling concepts, OpenGeospatial standards (WMS, WFS, GML) for mapping access and the exchange of geospacial elements, and NaPTAN, TransXchange, ATCO CIF, and RAIL CIF for the exchange of UK schedule data.

Q: Will you offer a Journey Planner service?
A: No, there are a number of excellent web-based journey planning sites that enable users to optimise multi-leg journeys. We intend to work with existing providers of such systems.

Q: Are you a transport consultancy?
A: No, we do not consider ourselves to be transport consultants, and we do not aim to offer transport advice. Rather, ito! offers information services to the transport sector, including to transport consultants.

Q: What about data licences?
A: All our commercially-provided datasets are correctly lisensed. All datasets created by volunteers will be available to others without charge using an appropriate open licence. As a company we promote the creation of open datasets and the development of the necessary software to make this possible. We believe that collected at the expense of the tax-payer should be available without charge to the public.
